Name: | VBS/Loveletter Virus |
Alias: | I LOVE YOU |
Who is affected? | This is a worm that uses Microsoft Outlook e-mail and mIRC. Will send itself to everyone in the address list. |
What does it do? | The virus then searches for certain filetypes on all folders on all mapped drives (including network drives)
and overwrites them. Overwritten files will have either .vbs or .vbe extensions.
Affects the following file formats:
- .js
- .jse
- .css
- .wsh
- .sct
- .hta
- .jpg
- .jpeg
- .mp3
- .mp2
The executable file of the worm is a trojan that will steal passwords.

How is it spread? | Through an e-mail attachment using Microsoft Outlook and Through an Internet Relay Chat program, mIRC |
What to look for: | "I Love You" in the subject, and the attachment
"loveletterforyou.txt.vbs". |
