Who is affected? | Systems running Windows 95 or 98 with Word97 and using Outlook or Outlook Express mail clients |
What does it do? | Overwrites the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. The hard drive will be reformatted and all data will be lost. |
How is it spread? | Through infected e-mail documents. Sends itself to the first 50 people in the infected user's mailbox.Can be infected at anytime, but activates destructive payload on December 25th of any year. |
What to look for: | "Message From (Office 97 user name)" in the subject line and a message body that says "This document is very Important and you've GOT to read this!!!" |
Status: | Be On Alert! Large companies on three continents have been hit as of 11/22/99 but most damage will be to home computers on Christmas Day. |
